Why do kids join gangs?
Many times, kids join gangs because of:
- Peer pressure and lack of self-esteem.
- Promise of protection from bullies or other gangs.
- The promise of money (which comes through crime or drug sales).
- Feeling accepted into a group.
- They don’t know what they’re doing is wrong until it’s too late.
- Unhappy/abusive home life.
- Lack of love, discipline, enforcement of rules or communication.
- Lack of attention with the “no one cares about me” mentality.
