STANCE's Neighborhood Walk Program
In order to create safer, friendlier and more connected communities, we are asking residents to head out into their neighborhood and take a walk around the block with their family, friends and neighbors. This not only promotes a healthier more socially active life but also helps to create a safer, crime-free community.
"The ultimate goal of STANCE's Neighborhood Walk Program is to help improve our sense of community and allow residents to take ownerships of the streets again" says Mike Walker of the Partnership for a Safer Cleveland. "Walking is a great way to spend time with friends and meet new people. It helps promote a greater sense of unity in the neighborhoods and with people being outside, walking, talking, and observing, people will think twice about committing crimes."
Benefits of walking:
- Deterrent against crime and criminal activities
- Excellent way to socialize with friends and meet new neighbors
- Improves your health, neighborhood livability and results in positive social interaction
- Helps relieve stress, depression and anger
Why Walking?
- Walking can reduce the risk of many diseases
- Walking brings a host of social perks, smiling humans and new friends
- Helps local residents take ownership of their streets and increase surveillance that deters crime
If you don't exercise regularly already
We recommend that you check with your doctor or healthcare professional before starting a new walking program. Get your green light so you can be on your way to enjoying the many benefits of walking.
If you can't participate in the walk
You can still participate by spending time in your yard, on your porch and socialize with your neighbors. You can even help by calling a friend you haven't spoken to in a while just to say hello.
